Position Description: The Department of Organismic and Evolutionary Biology seeks to appoint a tenured professor in Plant or Fungal Biology to serve as Director of the Harvard University Herbaria. The Harvard University Herbaria (HUH; http://www.huh.harvard.edu) house one of the largest and most comprehensive collections of dried plant and fungal specimens in the world. These specimens are the key to our knowledge of plants and fungi, and serve as a permanent reference to the diversity of life on earth. The HUH has embarked on an ambitious plan to enhance its scientific mission through comprehensive digitization, renovation of facilities, and improvement in bioinformatic infrastructure. The Department and Herbaria have strong linkages to a number of allied biodiversity institutions, including the Harvard Forest, Arnold Arboretum, Museum of Comparative Zoology, and Harvard University Center for the Environment. We seek an outstanding scientist who can provide vision for this institution and contribute to broader biodiversity-centered efforts at Harvard. We are interested in searching broadly in the fields of plant and fungal biology, including evolution, ecology, development/morphology, genomics/genetics, symbiosis biology, and climate change. Successful candidates will teach at both undergraduate and graduate levels and engage in an innovative research program. Applications must be received by October 1, 2019.

Basic Qualifications: Candidates are required to have a doctorate.

Additional Qualifications: Demonstrated strong commitment to teaching and research is desired. Candidates should also evince intellectual leadership and impact on the field and potential for significant contributions to the department, University, and wider scholarly community.
