MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of The University of Texas M. D. SUMMARY
The intended function of the Research Scientist position is to provide pathological evaluation and services to ECOG-ACRIN trials. The research scientist will develop scientific projects, data management, data analysis and interpretation, as well as scientific communication of the findings in meetings and peer review journals.
JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
Histology evaluation
Provide histological, histochemical, immunohistochemical and other in situ-based analysis of specimens for the EA Central Biorepository and Pathology Facility (EA CBPF).
Oversees and maintains organized processes to provide optimal and timely results.
• Remains knowledgeable of processes and pre-analytical procedures enabling efficient trouble shooting and problem solving.
• Assists with monitoring and documenting of the sections inventory control system while assuring effective use of supplies.
• Prioritizes and organizes workflow meeting productivity goals of the section.
Develops, performs and oversees standard and novel research testing tasks in accordance with lab procedures.
• Remains knowledgeable of processes and pre-analytical procedures enabling efficient trouble shooting and problem solving.
• Assists with monitoring and documenting of the sections inventory control system while assuring effective use of supplies.
Record keeping and data collection
• Performs and documents all required quality control/quality assurance.
• Maintains accurate, detailed records and data and protocols.
• Prepares graphs, slides and tables via photography, computer, or manually.
• Keeps abreast of new procedures.
• Must be able to communicate results to and understand instructions from principal investigator and colleagues.
• Discusses goals of each project with supervisor. With help of supervisor, develops a step-by-step written procedure outlining the specific actions required to conduct the work before proceeding.
• Participates in lab meetings and presents data where necessary.
Laboratory and Data Maintenance
• Enter and maintain data from research activities in notebook/computer databases as appropriate.
• Monitor and maintain supply inventory so that work flow is not negatively affected.
PhD in one of the natural sciences or related field or Medical degree. With PhD, no experience required. With Medical degree, two years of experience in experimental or scientific work.
