Staff Associate (Microscopy Imaging Associate) in the Mortimer B. Zuckerman Mind Brain Behavior Inst

Reporting to the Director of Cellular Imaging, the Staff Associate will be responsible for training, application support, and periodic maintenance of the systems supported by Cellular Imaging. The Imaging Associate will work at the interface of cutting edge technology and high-impact research, driving innovative solutions for neuroscience imaging applications. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

• Operates state-of-the-art microscopy systems and computational platforms for analysis in support of the scientific research activities of the Institute. • Provides individualized training and technical support, including assistance with experimental design and advice on sample preparation, in using confocal, super-resolution, widefield, and lightsheet microscopes. • Participates in and supports workshops on advanced microscopy fundaments and applications. • Develops software tools for image processing and analysis in support of scientific research activities. • Under the guidance of theMicroscope Facility Manager, creates and outlines guidelines and protocols for system usage; and monitors usage and billing through the scheduling system (iLab). • Assists in monthly billing and invoicing; assist in yearly budget planning.  • Performs regular and ongoing system maintenance and troubleshooting; other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree and optical microscopy experience is required. At least two (2) years of prior experience in configuration, calibration and troubleshooting of microscopy and imaging instruments in a multi-user setting.

A Master’s degree preferred. Operational experience in a shared resource, cost-recovery environment is preferred.

Ideal candidate must possess in-depth understanding and extensive hands-on experience in advanced optical microscopy and imaging instruments, including a broad knowledge of imaging techniques. A background in imaging and analysis, related to applications in life sciences is required. Prior knowledge of computational resources related to large scale imaging data is preferred.
