The Andlinger Center for Energy and the Environment invites exceptional professionals to apply for the position of assistant director for research. The assistant director for research will work with the Center leadership to design and execute initiatives aimed at growing collaborative scholarship and increasing the impact of the Andlinger Center research program in energy and environmental technologies. The assistant director will work in close collaboration with the associate director for research to engage faculty, researchers, students and postdocs to identify and articulate core research projects, with an emphasis on external center grant development and solicitation. This individual will facilitate bringing together multi-faceted, interdisciplinary teams, support the scientific direction of such projects, and develop comprehensive and coherent approaches to articulate these initiatives. Responsibilities include: assist in writing non-technical parts of proposals, coordinate various center-wide research efforts, support center-proposal outreach activities, mentorship, reporting activities, and curate and aggregate research findings for dissemination to aid our communications efforts in increasing Andlinger Center visibility.

Also in the portfolio is the visiting fellows and postdoctoral fellows programs which play a vital role in enriching the research community. The assistant director for research will serve as the fellows’ primary point-of-contact, helping to properly align their activities with the Center’s mission. The incumbent will partner closely with the assistant director for external partnerships to leverage campus research activities to build industrial support and corporate partnerships. This Dean of Faculty position will hold the rank of professional specialist.

Advanced degree in related science or engineering field, Ph.D. preferred; 6-8 years' experience in relevant field;  strong experience in major interdisciplinary research proposal preparation and translating dynamic research efforts into collaborative, integrated relationships; knowledge of energy- and/or environmental-related technologies and interest in technological developments preferred; excellent interpersonal and written communications skills a must; oral and written communications skills is required, with the ability to convey scientific knowledge across technical and general populations.
