Assistant Professor of Plant Resilience
The Department of Horticulture is accepting applications for a new tenure track position at the Assistant Professor level in Plant Resilience. We are looking for a dynamic individual to develop innovative solutions to current and emerging challenges that constrain horticultural crop production. The successful candidate will be expected to develop an internationally-recognized research program that serves as a bridge between basic science and production agriculture, with an emphasis on horticultural crops such as fruits, vegetables, and ornamentals. We expect that this research will draw upon the fundamental principles of plant physiology to address challenges related to environmental stress. Research on the application of whole plant physiology to production settings is expected.
The incumbent will be expected to develop and teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate level, as well as contribute to other courses in their area of expertise. Collaboration with peers in disciplines such as horticulture, agronomy, plant pathology, biochemistry, and botany is expected. The incumbent will successfully compete for external funding on a state, regional, and national basis. Additional responsibilities include mentoring undergraduate and graduate students as well as service at the department, university, and community levels.
A PhD in plant physiology, a plant science discipline, or a related field is required. Candidates must have a strong disciplinary foundation in plant physiology; effective oral and written communication skills; demonstrated ability to design and conduct innovative research supporting advances in crop production and environmental stress tolerance; and a strong record of publishing in peer-reviewed journals. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated success in attracting extramural funding and documented teaching experience. A minimum of one year post-doctoral experience is required.

The recently opened Wisconsin Crop Innovation Center is a one of a kind public biotechnology service and research center that has the capacity to generate and grow thousands of transformed and gene edited plants per year. The University of Wisconsin-Madison also has a number of research stations with excellent land for field-based research.
