Texas Biomedical Research Institute (Texas Biomed, located in San Antonio, Texas) is seeking to double its faculty over the next 10 years by recruiting faculty to enhance and expand each of the institute’s recently defined research programs in Host-Pathogen Interactions, Disease Intervention and Prevention, and Population Health (https://www.txbiomed.org/research/). Hiring is at all ranks and successful candidates will be expected to synergize with faculty and staff in existing Programs to foster Texas Biomed efforts to become national/international leaders in infectious disease research. Texas Biomed is a free standing, private research institute. It supports ABSL3 and ABSL4 facilities with unparalleled resources, and is the host institution of the Southwest National Primate Research Center. It has longstanding partnerships with UT Heath SA and UTSA and its campus is on the west side of beautiful San Antonio.

Applicants with a robust research program in infectious diseases and/or conditions that make an individual susceptible to infectious diseases (aging, metabolic syndrome, chronic inflammatory conditions, etc.) are encouraged to apply. Cluster hire opportunities are available for individuals that can build and sustain large programmatic areas. Texas Biomed has particular interest in recruiting within the following:

  1. Single cell and scalable omics technologies allows characterization of immune cell subsets (systems immunology).
  2. Multi-drug resistant pathogens and hospital-acquired infections, including biofilms.
  3. Host genetics and pathogen driven host epigenetic regulation to vaccination, chronic infection/disease, or microbiota.
  4. Nonhuman primate models of infectious diseases with specific interest in HIV and HIV related co-morbidities and co-infections and imaging (multi-label immunofluorescence, MRI, PET/CT).
  5. Nonhuman primate models of lifespan diseases, including immunology/chronic inflammatory disorders and infections of aging, metabolic syndrome, and regenerative medicine.

Qualifications: M.D., Ph.D. and/or DVM in Microbiology, Immunology, genetics, epidemiology or other related fields.  Demonstrated research productivity and evidence of an independently-funded research program.  Experience working with interdisciplinary research teams, and mentoring members of underrepresented groups.
