Hamburg is implementing an inter-university strategy to strengthen informatics in digitalization. In ahoi.digital, Universität Hamburg, the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences (HAW), the Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH), and HafenCity University Hamburg (HCU) are intensifying cooperation in education, research, and technology transfer.

Universität Hamburg is dedicated to sustainability, equal opportunity, and family-friendly policies. We also prize cultural diversity, communication, and interaction among people from different backgrounds and with different lifestyles.

The Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics, and Natural Sciences invites applications for a professorship:

Responsibilities:

We are seeking a scientist with an outstanding international track record. The successful candidate will be expected to teach and conduct research in the field of computational systems biology with a focus on method development.

The successful candidate should also have an outstanding track record with regard to publications and research. We expect contributions to research at Universität Hamburg that develop novel computer-based methods and applications in systems biology, ideally in the context of infection biology. Possible research topics include modeling of cellular networks and systems in the context of infection processes; modeling of resistance formation; and simulation of cell systems. The consolidation and integration of large sets of heterogeneous biological data should form an essential part of the research.

The position is pivotal to the upcoming Leibniz-WissenschaftsCampus InterACt, in which Universität Hamburg will strengthen connections to the different Leibniz-Institutes in the field of infection and structural biology.

Duties will include collaboration on interdisciplinary projects in the University's core research area Infection Research as well as in the emerging field of Computing in Science under the aegis of the Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Natural Sciences. In particular, the post holders are expected to foster close connections to the Centre for Structural Systems Biology Hamburg (CSSB). The post holder is expected to actively participate in ahoi.digital, the cooperation platform for informatics at Hamburg’s higher education institutions.

Experience in staff leadership and motivation is also expected.

The University places particular emphasis on the quality of teaching and therefore requests that applicants have excellent teaching skills and teaching experience. The successful candidates will be expected to teach courses in the Master of Science in Bioinformatics and the Bachelor of Science in Computing in Science. The creation of a range of modules for students in the life sciences is also desirable. Applicants must provide details of teaching experience and objectives. Further duties include participation in academic self-governance.

Following hearings, selected candidates will be assessed to ascertain skills in the areas of management and human resources.

In accordance with Section 14 subsection 3 sentence 3 HmbHG, Universität Hamburg seeks to increase the proportion of women in teaching and research and encourages female academics to apply.
