Applications are invited for a full-time postdoctoral position within the Department of Biomedical Sciences at the University of North Dakota (UND) School of Medicine & Health Sciences (SMHS) in Grand Forks, ND. The area of interest is diet-induced disruption of signaling in the brain in the etio-pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease (AD).  This position entails recruitment of a postdoc with expertise and proven track-record in investigating the role of dietary lipids in the etio-pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease and elucidating as well as delineating the underlying cellular and molecular mechanisms.

The successful candidate will enjoy access to a modern animal facility, flow cytometry and cell sorter facility, computational biology network, bioinformatics, light, electron and confocal fluorescence microscopy facility, and a proteomics/mass spectrometry core facility.

Compensation and Appointment:

Position:  Post-Doctoral Fellow

Remuneration / Salary: $45,000/year

Twelve (12) month, non-tenure track, special appointment with UND SMHS, Department of Biomedical Sciences.

Job Summary and Responsibilities:                                               

The candidate is expected to expand on and help develop new techniques for the current research program focusing on the effects of dietary lipids-induced metabolic reprogramming of the signalosome in the brain and the subsequent risk of development and progression of Alzheimer’s disease.

Minimum Requirements: 

• Ph.D., or MD/Ph.D. degree in physiology, pharmacology, neuroscience, biomedical sciences or a related field.
• Submit a cover letter detailing research experience, CV, and the addresses of three references.

Preferred Requirements:

• Ph.D. in Pharmacology / Physiology with a special emphasis in the realm of neuroscience signal transduction pathways and profound insight into the molecular mechanisms involved in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease.
• Delineation of signaling and molecular mechanisms involved in high cholesterol and high saturated fat induced/triggered pathogenic mechanisms in Alzheimer’s disease.
• Experience working with murine models of Alzheimer’s disease.
• Experience conducting molecular cloning, sequencing experiments and utilizing bioinformatics techniques will be preferred.
• Strong expertise in laboratory techniques related to molecular biology, biochemistry, and cell signaling research. CHlP-qPCR expertise is required.
• Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills in English as evidenced with oral and written communication at National meetings.
