Dr. Saobo Lei lab (https://und.edu/directory/saobo.lei) in the Department of Biomedical Sciences, School of Medicine and Health Sciences, University of North Dakota, is seeking a post-doctoral research fellow in behavioral sciences, optogenetics and/or electrophysiology areas. The broad interest of Lei lab is to understand the roles of neuromodulators and neuropeptides in modulating neural network activities and neurological diseases using interdisciplinary approaches.

Compensation and Appointment:

Position:  Postdoctoral Fellow

Remuneration / Salary: $45,000+ /year

Twelve (12) month, non-tenure track, special appointment with UND SMHS, Department of Biomedical Sciences.

Job Summary and Responsibilities:

Postdoctoral fellow position is available to study the roles of neuropeptides and neuromodulators in synaptic functions and neurological diseases with interdisciplinary approaches. Applicants should have a Ph.D. in neuroscience, physiology, behavioral sciences, molecular biology, signal transduction and/or ion channel physiology. Applicants should have strong expertise in behavioral sciences, molecular biology, immunocytochemistry or electrophysiology. Preference will be given to individuals with experiences in in vivo optogenetics and behavioral sciences. The individual is expected to stay for 2 years to generate data for publications in high profile journals. Salary will be dependent on experiences and comparable to NIH standard.  Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.

Minimum Requirements:    

  • Possess a recent (6 years or less) Ph.D. in neuroscience, behavioral sciences, physiology, pharmacology, biology, biochemistry, or biomedical related discipline.
  • Research experience in graduate/PhD work in at least one of the following areas: behavioral science, in vivo physiology, optogenetics, electrophysiology, signal transduction, ion channel physiology, immunocytochemistry, molecular biology.
  • At least one first-author publication.
  • Submit a CV and the contact information for three references.

Preferred Requirements:  

  • Proficiency in animal surgery, behavioral tests, optogenetics, electrophysiology, pharmacological experiments, immunocytochemistry, molecular biology.
  • Ability to perform animal surgery and behavioral tests including elevated-plus maze test, open field test, light-dark box test, fear test, or immunocytochemistry, genotyping, or electrophysiology.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in scientific writing.
