Assistant Dean for Clinical Research

Summary of Opportunity

The Lewis Katz School of Medicine (LKSOM) at Temple University is seeking qualified candidates and candidate nominations for the role of Assistant Dean for Clinical Research.  We are particularly interested in candidates who have experience leading NIH and Industry sponsored clinical research.

The new Assistant Dean will have responsibility for the following:

  • Together with the Senior Associate Dean for Research provide leadership, strategic development and oversight for all aspects of the School’s Clinical Research activities.
  • Together with the Clinical Research Committee develop a clinical research strategic plan and provide leadership in the implementation of the plan.
  • Together with the Senior Associate Dean for Research oversee the planning and development of a new CTSA application.
  • Together with the Senior Associate Dean for Research perform an annual evaluation of the productivity of each clinical research unit, so investment is aligned with productivity.
  • Together with the Senior Associate Dean for Research perform an annual evaluation of the space/resources needs for each clinical research unit, so that clinical research space/resources are aligned with research productivity.
  • In concert with the Associate Deans for Research and Faculty Affairs develop policies and mentoring programs which support career success for faculty at all stages of their career: junior, mid-level and senior with a focus on clinical research faculty.
  • Together with the Senior Associate Dean for Research build an infrastructure to support clinical research at LKSOM and Temple Health.
  • Assist the Associate Deans for Research and Faculty Affairs to develop and implement programs to enhance the recruitment, retention and success of women and minority

Core Responsibilities

  • Oversee planning for the growth of clinical research at LKSOM.
  • Oversee clinical research cores.
  • Oversee clinical research committees.
  • Oversee selection of candidates for foundation clinical research grants
  • Work with the IRB to ensure timely review of applications.
  • Assist new faculty as they bring or develop their clinical research program to LKSOM.

Candidate Minimum Qualifications

  • MD (or equivalent) Prior leadership experience in an academic medical center is strongly preferred
  • Documented record of research achievement
  • Qualifications for an appointment as a senior level facultymember.
  • Active participant in national/international organizations and committees such as the AHA.
  • Demonstrates sensitivity to the culture, needs, and aspirations of the community.
  • Evidence of encouraging and supporting diversity
