Postdoctoral Researcher

The research group of Dr. Eric M. Young in the Dept. of Chemical Engineering at WPI seeks to hire a postdoctoral researcher to join our interdisciplinary research team. The ideal candidate will primarily contribute to the development of communication and signaling among defined soil communities. The candidate's research will contribute to broader development of non-conventional hosts for synthetic biology. The position will provide ample opportunity for exploration into cross-disciplinary research initiatives, such as novel biomaterial development, novel biosynthesis, and high-throughput analysis. Research funding for the postdoctoral position is secured for 18 months.

An interest in synthetic biology, metabolic engineering, and natural microbial consortia is essential. In addition to original research resulting in quality publications on the above topics, the postdoctoral scholar will also assist in managing the projhect, directing the research of undergraduate and graduate students, coordinating research across the team, and preparing project deliverables for the sponsor.

Requirements:

  • PhD in chemical engineering, biological engineering, or a closely related field
  • Broad experience in molecular cloning and synthetic biology (please describe in cover letter)
  • Experience with novel assay development (please describe in cover letter)
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and achieve project goals
  • Experience with engineering microbial consortia is not essential, but desirable (please describe in cover letter)
  • Experience with cultivating microbes in soil is not essential, but desirable (please describe in cover letter)
