Post Doctoral Research Associate

The Hiep Vu laboratory at the Department of Animal Science and the Nebraska Center for Virology is devoted to developing new intervention strategies to control animal viruses. We recently combined bioinformatics and reverse genetics to generate a fully synthetic PRRSV strain capable of conferring unprecedented levels of heterologous protection. This vaccine candidate is licensed to an animal health vaccine company for commercialization.

We are now seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Associate to further characterize the biology of this synthetic PRRSV strain. The major objectives of this research are to elucidate the mechanisms by which the synthetic virus induces type-I interferons and evaluate the relationship between the viral capacity of inducing type-I IFNs and the viral ability to confer protection against heterologous PRRSV strains.

A PhD in Virology and Immunology or a related field is required. The degree must be completed by the start date. Strong experience in innate signaling pathways; experience with in vivo experiments using large animal models or a strong willingness to work with such models; excellent writing, communication, and organizational skills; and the ability to work independently are also required. Previous experience with RNA virus reverse genetics system is preferred.
