Position Summary

We are seeking to fill the position of Staff Scientist - Manager of the Small Animal Imaging Shared Resource at City of Hope. The Small Animal Imaging Shared Resource is supported in part by the NCI as part of the City of Hope Comprehensive Cancer Center and currently supports radioactive, X-ray, and optical (fluorescence/bioluminescence) imaging. Extensive experience in the design and implementation of experiments involving multiple imaging modalities in small animals, including PET-MRI, is a requirement.

Key Responsibilities include:

• Be intimately engaged in the planning, design, and execution of all core operations, including personnel management, routine instrument maintenance, training of new users where appropriate, acquisition of new equipment and services, oversee billing, and to ensure compliance with all regulatory and NCI guidelines for Shared Resources.
• Serve as an ad hoc member of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) as well as the Radiation Safety Committee to assist in providing guidance and oversight of experimental protocols involving the use of small animals in all proposed imaging experiments. They will be expected to work closely with the Cancer Center Leadership, the Small Animal Imaging Shared Resource Core Director, and the Office of Shared Resources for the development of rates and services.
• Collaborate with PIs on project development, and in preparation of grants and manuscripts.
• Ensure compliance with animal care and radiation safety regulations.
• Manage data collection, storage and dissemination.
• Maintain up to date knowledge of biomedical imaging literature, new equipment and services.
• Develop and modify SOPs as needed, and maintain operational transparency for end users.
• Present project updates and recent advances as part of the Shared Resources Seminar Series.
• Meet cost recovery goals set by Research Operations.
  

Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:

• Must have a Ph.D. in Physics, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related field,
• Must have 5-10 years' experience in small animal imaging.
