Postdoctoral Fellow – Ion channel electrophysiology
The Marchant Lab is seeking a post-doctoral fellow to advance our knowledge of ion channel properties in parasitic flatworms.
Parasitic flatworms are responsible for considerable disease burden worldwide, and their excitatory cell biology provides considerable opportunity for development of new therapies that could alleviate suffering from these infections. Our laboratory is actively engaged in drug discovery initiatives spanning from characterizing ion channel properties to high-throughput drug screening. This opportunity relates to electrophysiological characterization of the properties of ion channels targeted by praziquantel, the key therapy used to treat schistosomiasis. This disease affects over 200 million people worldwide, and new anthelmintic therapies are urgently needed.
The position is in the Department of Cell Biology at the Medical College of Wisconsin, the 3rd largest private medical school in the nation. MCW is located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Training opportunities include professional development funding, a strong mentorship environment and first-class research facilities. MCW is an affirmative action / equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate in hiring or employment on the basis of age, sex, race, color, religion, national origin, veteran status, disability, or sexual orientation.
Necessary qualifications: Research experience in ion channel electrophysiology. Strong communication and laboratory skills.
