The Department of Physiology at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) invites applications and nominations from nationally-recognized individuals for the position of Professor in Cardiovascular Research. This position comes with a competitive start-up package, and the successful applicant will assume a leadership role in undertaking and promoting cardiovascular research at the UTHSC. The qualified candidate is expected to be a leader in the field of cardiovascular research with a nationally-recognized program supported by significant extramural funding and will have an outstanding record of research accomplishments. He/she is expected to maintain a vigorous, creative, externally-funded research program that complements that of current faculty and builds on departmental strengths. The successful candidate will be able to take advantage of the many opportunities and excellent resources available in the Department of Physiology, the Division of Cardiology, and at Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare to develop collaborative research programs across the UTHSC campus. MLH is partnering with UTHSC to create the UTHSC-Methodist Cardiovascular Institute, which is envisioned as a place where researchers and clinicians will provide a bench to bedside approach to cardiovascular research and will offer word-class care in all areas of cardiovascular medicine. The candidate is also expected to participate in medical and graduate teaching. The Department of Physiology at UTHSC was recently ranked ninth out of all Physiology Departments in North America for total research funding. Current areas of research within the Department include cardiovascular disease, diabetes, gastrointestinal disease, cancer, neurodegenerative diseases and ion channels.
