Researcher - Behavioral Testing Suite

A full-time Researcher position is available at the Waisman Center of the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

The Waisman Center (https://www.waisman.wisc.edu/) is dedicated to the advancement of knowledge about human development, developmental disabilities, and neurodegenerative diseases. The Center encompasses both basic biomedical and behavioral research and clinical services to people with developmental disabilities, as well as numerous educational and outreach programs to young children and their families. The Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Research Center's (IDDRC) Cores within the Center provide support for interdisciplinary research. One of these cores is the Rodent Models Core (RMC) that assists IDDRC investigators, especially those studying mouse and rat models of disease, in generating and characterizing novel strains including behavioral phenotyping.

This full-time Researcher is expected to provide technical expertise in experimental design and analysis and offers behavioral testing services for Waisman Center investigators and provides critical research functions needed by multiple funded studies involving behavioral studies of mice and rats. The Researcher is responsible for day-to-day operations of the Behavioral Testing Suite (BTS) of the RMC. The Researcher will coordinate the process by which IDDRC projects are approved, prioritized, and scheduled for use of the BTS. The incumbent will validate scientific equipment and ensure that it is maintained and operational for investigator use, including periodically backing up and archiving data. For investigators who opt to use the services provided by the Core to evaluate their rodent models, rather than to conduct the behavioral assessments by using their own laboratory personnel, the behavioral testing will be performed by the Researcher. The service will include behavioral assessment, data preparation and analysis, and preparation of data reports. The Researcher will facilitate the preparation of behavioral components of future grant applications by investigators planning to perform their studies using the RMC. The Researcher will conduct technical seminars and training seminars.

The applicant should have a minimum of two years' research experience working with rodent models. Individuals who have experience with behavioral analyses are preferred. A Master's Degree in Psychology, Neuroscience or closely related field is required. A PhD in a related field is preferred. Candidates should have excellent interpersonal skills, be able to work independently, and have the ability to prioritize.
