Post-doctoral researcher in Endovascular MEMS technologies KTH Royal Institute of Technology, School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science

KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm has grown to become one of Europe’s leading technical and engineering universities, as well as a key centre of intellectual talent and innovation. We are Sweden’s largest technical research and learning institution and home to students, researchers and faculty from around the world. Our research and education covers a wide area including natural sciences and all branches of engineering, as well as architecture, industrial management, urban planning, history and philosophy.

Job description

The recently started research centre MedTechLabs is a collaboration between KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Karolinska Institutet (KI), and Stockholm County Council (SLL). It aims to generate world-leading, demand-driven research in medical technology that can provide better health care for the county's inhabitants as well as cost-efficient solutions for health care delivery. This includes providing more efficient and patient-proof diagnostics, therapy and management. Therefore, the focus is primarily on research that is likely to be applicable in a clinical environment within an estimated five-year period. Another aim is to convey and create the conditions for implementing acquired knowledge so that new clinical methods can be spread nationally. Reaching these aims involves a commitment to process-oriented healthcare through cross-disciplinary teamwork in technology and medicine in the Stockholm region. The centre will therefore be located in the BioClinicum in Karolinska University Hospital. Researchers from KI and KTH will work together to develop technology and methods that can be implemented in a clinical setting. For more information about MedTechLabs, see https://www.medtechlabs.se

We are currently looking for a post-doctoral researcher in the area of endovascular micro technologies addressing needs related to diagnostic and therapeutic methods. As a researcher in this field you focus on translational science developing and testing advanced micro systems for endovascular use that perform specific functions in in-vivo models. You will work in teams together with doctoral students to develop and prototype new technologies, and lead in-vivo evaluations together with other qualified staff.

Qualifications

To qualify for the position, you have a doctoral degree in engineering with practical orientation, preferably biomedical engineering, MEMS or a related field. PhDs in experimental integrative medicine (or similar) with a background in engineering (master level or similar) are also welcome to apply. The doctoral degree must have been obtained within the last three years from the application deadline (some exceptions for special grounds, for instance sick leave and parental leave).

You have experience from preclinical research and in-vivo models as well as technology development. Knowledge in micro and nanotechnologies, MEMS, is meritorious but not a requirement. Furthermore, we see that you have a broad network and good knowledge of research, development and industrial activities in the medical technology field.

We are looking for driven, self-going person who has the motivation and ability to generate new ideas, plan, manage and execute research activities in a multidisciplinary environment. This includes designing and realizing relevant prototypes and conducting relevant experiments in in-vivo models. Consequently, we believe that the suitable candidate is a hands-on person with a broad skill set with certain experience in the mentioned areas.

In addition to the above, we are looking for a person with good verbal as well as written communications skills in English being able to clearly publish results in high-quality scientific journals.

Great emphasis will be placed on personal competence and suitability.
