Position Summary

This Project Development Scientist position will serve as an integral member of the newly formed Translational Development Center (TDC) in the City of Hope (COH) Research Operations and will work closely with scientists within the TDC under the direction of Dr. Rodica Stan. This scientist will support the investigators and laboratory and clinical researchers involved in industry-sponsored investigator initiated projects from initial pre-clinical development to clinical trial performance, as deemed necessary for each agreement between COH and the industry sponsor. The main project management activities supported by the Project Development Scientist are detailed below.

Key Responsibilities include:
  • Develop in-depth knowledge of the TDC goals and areas of emphasis towards achieving the enterprise vision.
  • Manage all required administrative activities to ensure that protocols/applications/continuations for Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC), Laboratory Information Management System (Labware LIMS) and BioVia Electronic Lab Notebook (ELN) and Institutional Review Board (IRB) are set up, renewed and amended on time and accurately for each specific project.
  • You may serve in various positions within the center to accomplish the work (i.e. lab manager and related)
  • Work with investigators and their lab personnel to ensure the clarity, compliance and accuracy of protocol submissions, and data entry and management.
  • Facilitate team interactions and support the TDC Director to follow project progress, including setting up meetings, taking and sharing meeting minutes, and organizing the electronic files by project.
  • Work with the TDC Director to track progress on project milestones and to track related expenditures.
  • Assist with document preparation, as needed.

Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:
  • Minimum Education: Requires a PhD in biology, immunology, virology, or other life sciences; or, a master's degree with at least five years of laboratory management, clinical and animal protocol submissions and maintenance, or clinical trial regulatory experience in a healthcare/research/academic environment.
  • Skills: Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills are key.
  • Aptitude: Ability to work independently and as part of a team, meet deadlines, and perform and prioritize multiple simultaneous tasks. Requires judgment that could affect the image of City of Hope and the Beckman Research Institute.
  • Software: Proficiency in use of Microsoft Project Manager, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Communication: Strong written and verbal English is required.

Preferred education experience and skills:
  • Preferred Education: Ph.D.
  • Preferred Experience: involvement with human observational or therapeutic studies and protocol design/writing for animal and human observational/retrospective or therapeutic studies; familiarity with project management, IRB, IACUC, IBC and other regulatory bodies; and data analysis techniques, graphing methods, and interpretation of laboratory and clinical data.
