The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) Division of Intramural Research (DIR) is seeking an outstanding scientist for a tenure-track/tenure-eligible position to carry out independent research on the epidemiology of infectious diseases in the Laboratory of Clinical Immunology and Microbiology (LCIM) in Bethesda, Maryland.

The selected candidate is expected to implement and direct a vigorous independent program focused on the epidemiology of medically relevant infectious diseases (i.e., bacterial, viral, fungal, or parasitic infections). Of particular interest are population-based studies related to rare or opportunistic microbes, such as those found in patients with immune deficiencies. Candidates must hold a Ph.D., M.D., M.D./Ph.D, or equivalent doctoral degree in epidemiology or a relevant field and have relevant postdoctoral experience. Applicants must also have a strong publication record demonstrating an ability to perform independent, high-quality, creative, and impactful research in the field. The ideal candidate should have expertise in the use of large datasets (“Big Data”) and have the ability to implement and collaborate in multidisciplinary research within and across institutions, nationally, and internationally.  The successful candidate will be independently innovative while also collaborating with investigators across DIR.

The incumbent will have access to state-of-the-art core research support and the NIH Clinical Center, the premier research hospital on the main NIH campus. Candidates will be assigned independent resources including support personnel, equipment, space, and an allocated annual budget for services, supplies, and salaries sufficient to foster success. The incumbent will also benefit from unique opportunities to interact with other members of LCIM and DIR who perform basic, clinical, and translational research on infectious and immune diseases, as well as epidemiology experts across other NIH Institutes.
