Postdoctoral Research Scholar - Insect Biotechnology

POSITION SUMMARY

A postdoctoral research scholar position is available with Dr. Max Scott to develop and evaluate conditional female lethal and female transformation systems in the New World screwworm. The research builds on several years of research in developing transgenic screwworm strains. For example, we previously developed conditional female pupal lethal strains that have been tested extensively (https://bmcbiol.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s12915-016-0296-8). The postdoc would continue the development of second and third generation strains that have specific advantages over the pupal lethal strains. For example, female lethality at the embryo stage. While some of the research will be performed in the Scott lab in Raleigh, much of the research will be done at the screwworm mass rearing facility in Pacora, Panama. Thus a unique feature of this work is that any promising strains developed could be evaluated under mass rearing conditions in the facility. Please visit https://maxscottlab.wordpress.ncsu.edu/ for further information on the Scott lab.
