A NIH-funded position is available immediately for a highly motivated and trained postdoc to work on ocular mechanotransduction at the University of Utah. We plan to use electrophysiological (whole-cell recording), optical (EMCCD camera-based and 2-photon imaging) and molecular (conditional KO mice, shRNA and AAV-based expression of reporter proteins) approaches to understand the functions of mechanosensitive ion channels in retinal neurons and glial cells. Dysregulated mechanotransduction plays an important role in the pathogenesis of glaucoma.
The Krizaj Laboratory is part of the Moran Eye Center, a top-10 vision research institution in the country, with 14 independent yet highly collaborative research groups that study a wide range of basic and applied topics related to vision. It is also a member of the Neuroscience Program at the University of Utah, with >70 independent research labs. The has ongoing collaborations within the university, nationwide, and with research groups in Japan, Australia and Denmark.
The project brings an opportunity to integrate a number of disciplines including physiology, molecular biology, mechanobiology, vision research/ophthalmology and neuroscience. Candidates with experience in electrophysiology and/or optical imaging approaches are preferred. Experience in neuroscience or vision is desirable but NOT required, however, a solid first author publication record, written/oral skills and ability to work in a dynamic team environment are required.
Interested individuals are encouraged to forward a brief letter of interest stating your accomplishments, curriculum vitae and a list of two references to: david.krizaj@hsc.utah.edu
