position in Mucosal Immunology and Autoimmunity

Position available to study the role of gut mucosa-microbiota interaction in the context of  autoimmunity including lupus and type 1 diabetes. Project involves studies using human samples and rodent models to understand the impacts of innate immune-receptor and dietary-factor interactions with gut microbiota on immune regulation, inflammation and autoimmune onset, and therapeutic manipulation of these interactions. Studies will involve use of conventional and high-throughput metagenomics, proteomics  and metabolomics using samples from human subjects, and development and use of genetically modified and germ-free murine models.

Candidates must hold a  doctoral degree or equivalent and be a U.S resident. Candidates should have  previous experience in working with mouse models, and a background in mucosal immunology, autoimmunity and/or inflammation..

MUSC is located in the beautiful historic district of Charleston bounded by the Atlantic Ocean and beautiful beaches to the east, and national forests and wildlife refuges to the north and south. MUSC is the state’s top-ranked medical center.
