Description

We are seeking a highly motivated Scientific Researcher/Senior Scientific Researcher at Genentech in the Department of Discovery Oncology, with a joint appointment in Early Discovery Biochemistry.  The Scientific Researcher/Senior Scientific Researcher will lead Biology studies for drug discovery projects focused on the Ubiquitin/Proteasome System and will spearhead related basic science research.  The successful candidate will be responsible for executing cellular, biochemical and molecular biology techniques including the development and implementation of protein interaction, enzymatic, and cell-based assays.  The position will involve close collaboration and study coordination with other Research labs including Translational Oncology, Biochemical Pharmacology, Proteomics, Bioinformatics, Discovery Chemistry, Safety/Toxicology, and other core drug discovery groups.  This is an ideal position for a Scientific Researcher/Senior Scientific Researcher who is enthusiastic about leading projects, gaining drug discovery experience, and delving into the basic biology of the ubiquitin system.  As such the position requires excellent communication and collaboration skills, the desire to learn about and integrate multiple aspects of drug discovery, and a passion for basic science research.


Who You Are

Qualified candidates will have a Ph.D. degree in Biochemistry, Cell/Molecular Biology, or a related field with a minimum of 3 years of research experience working with cell culture and standard molecular biology techniques. Postdoctoral work is preferred but not required for exceptionally qualified graduate students.  Efficient time management and the ability to work on several projects simultaneously are essential.  Candidates are expected to independently plan and execute experiments, interpret results and proactively solve problems.  The candidate will have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with multiple research teams.  A strong track record of research productivity including a solid publication record is required.  Outstanding written and oral communication skills are essential.  Attention to detail and enthusiasm for integrating basic science learnings with drug discovery efforts are a must.  For more information on the lab of Ingrid Wertz, please visit https://www.gene.com/scientists/our-scientists/ingrid-wertz.  For more information about Research at Genentech please visit https://www.gene.com/about-us.
