A postdoctoral fellow position is available in the Department of Physiology at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center, New Orleans, LA on a collaborative NIH R01 project. This position is available to investigate the effects of chronic nicotine inhalation on the homeostasis of the renin-angiotensin system and the development of cardiovascular and pulmonary diseases. A multidisciplinary approach will be employed combining the state-of-the-art nicotine delivery system, cardiac function tests (echocardiogram, pressure-volume recording), pulmonary function measurement (whole-body plethysmography, FlexiVent), and blood pressure monitoring (mouse telemetry). In addition, transgenic and knockout mouse models will be employed to dissect the molecular mechanisms of how chronic nicotine inhalation alters components of the renin-angiotensin system and predisposes nicotine users to cardiovascular and pulmonary diseases. Ideal candidates with a recent PhD in Physiology or a related discipline are encouraged to apply. LSU Health is an Equal Opportunity Employer for females, minorities, individuals with disabilities and protected veterans.
