This Scientist/ Sr. Scientist position directly supports the Pharmaceutical, Vaccine, Science and Technology (PVS&T) organizations. The primary responsibility of this role is to characterize product quality attributes and develop robust formulations and formulation processes needed to advance Elanco's early and late phase Biomolecules portfolio. The formulations scientist will provide hands-on, day-to-day technical support of all formulation lab activities covering the broad scope of Elanco's large molecule portfolio (nutritionals, vaccine and biotherapeutics). Responsibilities will include but are not limited to experimental design and analysis, technical program leadership, collaboration with internal and external partners and technology transfer. Beyond the lab responsibilities, this role deliverables will also include authoring and executing SOPs, batch records and technical reports. The formulation scientist position is a high visibility position that can serve as a contributor and/or lead scientist on the various product and species teams for R&D and manufacturing. This position will be responsible for implementing and optimizing a panel of assays to evaluate protein solubility, stability, aggregation, charge, and homogeneity. This position is laboratory-based and will require routine interaction with scientists across multiple discovery and core research laboratories at Elanco. Beyond the technical requirements, this position will require organizational management and excellent communication skills. The incumbent scientist will be expected to support multiple projects at any given time. The ability to independently conceptualize and execute experiments, coupled with a "can do" attitude, is essential.

Functions, Duties, Task:
  • Perform analyses using a variety of modalities including but not limited to capillary electrophoresis, HPLC/UPLC (hydrophobic interaction, analytical size exclusion, reverse phase, affinity), dynamic light scattering, differential scanning calorimetry, solubility determination, microflow imaging, and melting curve analyses.
  • Screen buffer compositions for compatibility with protein solubility and formulation needs.
  • Conduct routine analysis of large molecule candidates using existing SOPs and regulatory guidelines as well as performing equipment troubleshooting when needed
  • Develop and validate various analytical methods for product release while keeping meticulous records
  • Facilitate technology transfer with internal and external partners
  • Author technical reports, SOP's, batch records and tech transfer documents
  • Keep abreast of scientific literature in the field and implement novel developability screening protocols and instrumentation.
  • Provide expertise in evaluation of new platform technologies.
