Staff Scientist - Cellular Imaging Shared Resource

Fred Hutch is seeking an Imaging Scientist (IS) for its Cellular Imaging Shared Resource (CISR). The CISR provides high resolution, state-of-the-art technologies for imaging and analyzing the molecular and structural organization of cells and tissue employing light and electron microscopy technologies to Fred Hutch / University of Washington Cancer Consortium Researchers. The facility provides state-of-the-art microscopy techniques (e.g. super-resolution, confocal, FRET, FRAP, 2-photon, live cell imaging, photo-activation and uncaging, quantitative immunofluorescence and immunohistochemistry, high content imaging), as well as image processing and analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and operate a variety of light and multi-photon microscopes
  • Train and provide support to the users of the CISR .
  • Conduct complex imaging experiments and maintain detailed records of experiments and outcomes.
  • Work with Core Director and Image Analysis Scientist to provide seamless support, from experimental design through data collect and advanced image analysis.
  • Assist the Core Director with the introduction and implementation of new imaging technologies, including light sheet and super resolution techniques.
  • Assist/Provide support to Core Director with applications for funding and grants (e.g. S10 instrumentation grants).

Qualifications

A PhD in related science field with a minimum of three years of additional experience is desired, however a highly skilled candidates with a Master’s degree and a minimum of five years of extensive experience will also be considered.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record of working with a variety of commercial imaging platforms and software (e.g. Zeiss, Leica, Nikon, Molecular Devices ImageXpress), as well as advanced knowledge in both the theory and application of light microscopy methods (e.g. widefield microscopy, laser scanning, SPIM, light sheet, deconvolution, and super resolution microscopy).

The applicant should have a broad knowledge of molecular, cellular and organismal biology, as well as familiarity with standard model systems. Familiarity with cancer research would be beneficial.
