RNA Virology –

Assistant Professor Cluster Hire

The University of Wisconsin-Madison Institute for Molecular Virology (IMV), in collaboration with the Departments of Pathobiological Sciences, Medical Microbiology & Immunology, Oncology, or Biochemistry, seek to hire a tenure-track Assistant Professor in RNA Virology.

The faculty hire is expected to develop a robust research program aimed at generating new insights into RNA virology. The area of focus includes, but is not limited to, RNA structure or RNA biology in the context of viral infection and virus-host interactions. Preference will be given to candidates working on RNA viruses that cause disease in animals or humans, especially emerging or zoonotic pathogens. Candidates should display a productive record of scholarship in virology and demonstrate an ability to work in a collaborative, interdisciplinary research and teaching environment.

This position is part of a three-part hiring initiative in virology, "The Metastructures of Viral Infection", expanding and complementing the Madison Virology Program at UW-Madison. There will be opportunities for synergy with the two other cluster hire faculty that focus on Viral DNA Biology or Cryo-EM-dependent Structural Virology. The IMV and tenure home department will act as interactive partners in this hire and will mutually support this position with substantial, state-of-the-art laboratory facilities and other resources. The candidate will join a home department and become a member of IMV and Madison Virology Program, which together will provide a rich intellectual environment along with outstanding support, facilities, graduate students and staff.

Further information regarding the cluster initiative can be found at:
https://facstaff.provost.wisc.edu/cluster-hiring initiative/

This academic, tenure-track position is 9-12 months with a state-funded salary and competitive start-up package. The position requires a PhD in a biological or relevant physical science. We seek a diverse set of faculty candidates who will deepen our campus' interdisciplinary research strength in key areas of current and future research promise, as well as faculty candidates who will approach their work in a manner that advances our commitment to research excellence.

Apply online at "Jobs at UW" (https://jobs.wisc.edu) under job number 96205. Applications must be received through the UW-Madison's online application system by uploading a curriculum vitae, a 2-page description of research accomplishments and future directions, and the names of the three references you have arranged to send recommendation letters on your behalf to krvoss@wisc.edu by September 16, 2019.

The deadline for ensuring full consideration is September 16, 2019; however, the position will remain open, and applications may be considered if the position is not filled.

Questions about this opportunity may be directed to Kristen Bernard (kristen.bernard@wisc.edu), Search Committee Chair. The participants in this cluster hire are committed to maintaining and growing a culture that embraces diversity, inclusion, and equity. These values are foundational elements of our excellence, and fundamental components of a positive and enriching learning and working environment for all students, faculty and staff. We insist that all new hires embrace the importance of equity and diversity in the workplace.
