Staff Clinician

The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), Division of Intramural Research (DIR), Laboratory of Allergic Diseases (LAD) is offering a position as a staff clinician in clinical and translational research within the field of allergy and immunology.

LAD conducts basic and clinical research on immunologic diseases ranging from classic allergy to immunodeficiency. LAD is composed of an interactive group of Ph.D.s, M.D.s, research nurses, technicians, and administrative staff who work in contemporary laboratories connected to NIAID’s clinical facilities. Scientific personnel are engaged in basic and translational research aimed at understanding the genetics and pathology underlying allergy and immunodeficiency.

The successful applicant will be an enthusiastic and highly motivated clinician scientist who will provide direct clinical care to patients enrolled in LAD clinical protocols at the NIH Clinical Center and outpatient clinics. They will aid in the development, implementation, performance, and management of clinical research protocols studying allergic and immunodeficiency diseases in adults and children. Research in LAD focuses on children and adults with food allergy, atopic dermatitis, primary atopic disorders, and other allergic and immunologic diseases. The clinician will provide mentorship to clinical staff, including fellows, nurses and students, to ensure that clinical protocols are properly conducted. In addition to providing comprehensive care for allergic and immunodeficiency diseases, LAD’s staff clinicians serve on the NIH Clinical Center Allergy and Immunology Consultation Service and participate in training fellows in the Allergy and Immunology Clinical Fellowship Program.

The successful applicant must have an M.D. or M.D./Ph.D.; be board certified by the American Board of Allergy and Immunology (ABAI); hold a permanent, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a state, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States; and meet the requirements to be credentialed at the NIH Clinical Center. The ideal applicant should also have a strong background and interest in clinical research.
