Post-Doctoral Research Fellow, Shou Laboratory

Overview

Cures Start Here. At Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, home to three Nobel laureates, interdisciplinary teams of world-renowned scientists seek new and innovative ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer, HIV/AIDS and other life-threatening diseases. Fred Hutch’s pioneering work in bone marrow transplantation led to the development of immunotherapy, which harnesses the power of the immune system to treat cancer. An independent, nonprofit research institute based in Seattle, Fred Hutch houses the nation’s first cancer prevention research program, as well as the clinical coordinating center of the Women’s Health Initiative and the international headquarters of the HIV Vaccine Trials Network. Careers Start Here.

A quantitative biology laboratory in the Division of Basic Sciences is seeking a highly motivated post-doctoral fellow.  Our lab provides a wonderful opportunity for developing an interdisciplinary research style that bridges chemistry/physics with biology.

Responsibilities

We are interested in using experimental biology, quantitative measurements, and mathematical modeling to examine microbial communities. For example, how might different microbial species interact with each other in a community to allow the community to carry out a function that would have otherwise been impossible? How might the presence of interacting partners influence the evolutionary trajectories of microbes? How might we effectively manipulate community functions? More information about the group may be found at honeycomb.fhcrc.org.

Qualifications

A Ph.D. in biology or in a related scientific discipline such as physics or engineering is required.

The successful candidate should have a strong background in biology, physics and/or engineering, ideally with expertise in both experiments and mathematical modeling. Our lab provides a wonderful opportunity for developing an interdisciplinary research style that bridges chemistry/physics with biology.

To apply, please submit a CV, a cover letter stating your long-term goal, and a list of professional references.
