Position Summary

A faculty position is available at the Assistant or Associate Professor level at the Neuroscience Institute (NSI) at JFK Medical Center in Edison, New Jersey, part of the Hackensack Meridian Health System.

We seek an outstanding scientist in the area of movement disorders focusing on the cellular and molecular mechanisms of disease and utilizing both cell culture systems and animal models. Expertise in CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing techniques, advanced fluorescence microscopy, whole-animal imaging and electrophysiology are advantageous.

Current basic research strengths at NSI include molecular, cellular and systems level studies of traumatic brain and spinal cord injury, RNA biology and the epigenetics of stroke. The clinical facilities at NSI, including adult and pediatric neurology, neurosurgery and neuropsychology, are located immediately adjacent to the research division. Current clinical strengths include neurological and/or neurosurgical approaches to brain tumors, stroke, sleep disorders, Parkinson’s disease, neuro-ophthalmology and neuro-otology. The Institute fosters and encourages collegial interactions between bench and clinical practitioners, affording scientists the opportunity to conduct translational research projects. Applicants with research programs that include such translational approaches are particularly encouraged to apply.

Minimum Requirements

Candidates must have a Ph.D., M.D., and/or D.Sc. degree (or equivalent) and a minimum of 3 years of postdoctoral research experience. Desired applicants should have a strong record of scholarship in movement disorders research, and a commitment to translational efforts bridging basic science discoveries with clinical applications. An established track record of participating in multidisciplinary team-based collaborations is a plus.

Rolling review of applications will commence immediately, and will continue until the position is filled. Please submit a CV, statement of research plans, three relevant publications and the names and contact details for three references to Lisa.Stansbury@hackensackmeridian.org
