Position Summary
A Staff Scientist position is available within the Department of Molecular Medicine at the Beckman Research Institute of City of Hope to identify novel molecular and cellular mechanisms of liver and pancreatic carcinogenesis. We seek applications from candidates with expertise in biochemistry, molecular biology, and cell biology, with strong interests in translational research utilizing mouse models of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and pancreatic ductal

adenocarcinoma (PDAC) as well as human tissues/cells.

The Staff Scientist will be responsible for drafting manuscripts, progress reports, and presenting research results internally as well as extramurally, when needed.The environment of the Beckman Research Institute is highly

collaborative and these projects will involve multiple interactions with other research groups and core laboratories across our Institution.

Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:
  • Candidates for the Staff Scientist position should have a Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree(s), and in-depth experience with the following:
    • immunoblotting; immunoprecipitation, including protein immunoprecipitation (IP), protein complex, immunoprecipitation (Co-IP), chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP), and RNA immunoprecipitation (RIP); RNA and DNA extraction and purification; RT-qPCR and qPCR and conventional PCR; RNA-Seq; gel electrophoresis; mouse models; mouse genotyping; primary cell culture; maintenance and propagation of cell lines; organoids; lentiviral and adenoviral transduction; luciferase-reporter assay; collection/processing of tissues for frozen sections, in situ hybridization, immunohistochemistry, and cell culture; and microscopy/imaging and computer cataloguing of data.
  • The ability to work independently, to participate in highly collaborative projects, and to contribute intellectually to the development of the research are requisites for the Staff Scientist position.
  • Candidates should be highly motivated individuals with the ability to work in a team environment and with good oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Candidates who have strong interest in translational research and appreciate the complexity of biological systems are particularly encouraged to apply.
