POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOW

GENE EXPRESSION AND PROTEIN PRODUCTION HOST LINE ENGINEERING

Janssen BioTherapeutics is seeking a highly motivated individual to explore fundamental mechanisms of transcription, translation and epigenetic gene expression regulation and develop a paradigm for expression cell line creation.

This expression cell line could be used in the discovery and development of our protein therapeutics. Biotherapeutics continue to grow in number and importance in treating serious diseases such as cancer and immune disorders. Advances and optimization of key enabling technologies, including vector design, gene sequence engineering and expression cell line hosts, have been important drivers in the rapid growth of recombinant proteins as therapeutics over the last 30 years. Through exploring and leveraging the new insights we have gained in fundamental biology in recent years, the Postdoctoral Fellow has the opportunity to create a new paradigm for expression cell line development that could be tremendously impactful.

At Janssen, postdoctoral fellows are trained by expert scientists working at the cutting edge of drug discovery. Janssen BioTherapeutics supports a wide range of therapeutic areas including Oncology, Neuroscience, Cardiovascular and Metabolism, Immunology, and Infectious Diseases. The successful candidate will learn from and contribute to an industry-leading drug discovery program that has brought numerous quality therapeutics to patients and significant contributions to human health. They will partner throughout the Janssen R&D organization and participate in cross-functional team discussions, gaining insight into many aspects of biotherapeutic discovery and development. The Postdoctoral Fellow is expected to author papers on their research and present novel findings at scientific conferences.

Key Objective:

To use state-of-the-art cell engineering and gene expression technologies to build a model cell line for highly efficient and cost-effective expression of therapeutic proteins.

Qualifications

Suitable candidates will have a Ph.D. in molecular or cell biology, cell engineering or a related field. Research experience in one or more of the following areas is preferred:

  • Gene editing technologies, including CRISPR.
  • Protein expression and purification science and technologies.

Candidates must display an ability to independently design and execute research. In addition to a broad knowledge of cell and molecular biology, we are seeking an individual with deep intellectual curiosity, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
