The Role:

Organizational and Talent Development is the ultimate cross-functional team within any organization. Every day you will work with key stakeholders across the organization to develop our people, drive impact, and help Moderna develop our unique culture as we work on creating new medicines for patients. As Moderna continues to evolve, the needs and skills of our leaders are evolving too. As the Head of Organizational and Talent Development you will be responsible for setting the strategic vision for onboarding our new talent, providing continuous and innovative learning and training, developing leadership and organizational resiliency models and working with senior leaders to drive strategy through people management. This requires a keen understanding of business needs and challenges, extreme cross- functional collaboration, and creative visioning to set the path forward. This position works closely with senior leaders to understand talent needs of each function, provide consultation and develop organization and talent related plans and/or programs specific to each function. This position works closely with Talent Acquisition and our HRBP leaders to ensure there is a deliberate strategy and plan for attracting, developing, and retaining talent. This role manages a team of 3 learning and development professionals and will continue to build a team as we grow our organizational development function. You will design and implement key processes related to Succession Planning and Management, Performance Management, Talent Development, Leadership Development, Mentoring, Career Pathing, Training and Change Management. This position reports to the Chief People Officer and will be primarily located at our facility in Norwood, Massachusetts with travel to Kendall Square, Cambridge, as needed.

Here's What You'll Do:
  • Provide organization development solutions and services to the Company which focus on delivering our long-range plan through alignment of strategy, structure, processes, people, and rewards.
  • Create a learning and development strategy that addresses workforce capabilities, skills and competencies needed to support current and future strategies. Ensure learning and development programs embrace new technologies and multi-faceted delivery approaches.
  • Address a variety of questions including: What do newly hired leaders needs to effectively lead and drive value? What is needed to prepare our next crop of senior leaders? What does a director or senior director need to lead organizations that have doubled or tripled over the past 12 months?
  • Develop appropriate metrics and tracking mechanisms to build accountability, measure results, and optimize the impact of the talent management and organizational development programs. You will have proven ability to analyze and interpret data and leverage those insights into critical decisions.
  • Work with HRBP's and the leadership team to create a holistic people strategy that incorporates talent planning, organizational effectiveness, and driving a diverse and inclusive culture.
  • Champion and represent Moderna's unique culture and values. Create programs that safeguard, extend and advance our culture as a differentiator compared to other companies across our locations
  • Build upon existing and develop new innovative talent management programs and processes to improve the new hire experience, engagement, performance, and movement of talent across the Company- this may include development and management of talent profiles, career paths, performance management processes, multi-source feedback, succession planning, and talent reviews.


Here's What You'll Bring to the Table:
  • 20+ years of professional experience in human capital consulting, management consulting, or talent strategy with a Master's/advanced degree in leadership, adult learning, organizational effectiveness, organizational behavior, organizational development or an MBA.
  • Pharma and/or biotech industry experience. Significant experience in building and scaling organizations including those exceeding 2,000 employees on a global basis.
  • Experience in multiple human resources disciplines including HR Business Partner (HRBP), talent management, learning and development, OD, or talent acquisition
  • Demonstrated success in strong program or project management with impeccable interpersonal, and team building skills
  • Excellent communication skills, with strong senior presence; you have the ability partner closely with senior executives and execute quickly
  • Experience managing a team to execute on goals and implement and leverage digital infrastructure effectively
  • Flexible and agile in your approach to leveraging data and making rapid decisions
