One postdoc position in bioinformatics is immediately available in the laboratory of Dr. Jian Feng (https://www.bio.fsu.edu/faculty.php?faculty-id=feng) in the Department of Biological Science and Program in Neuroscience at Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida. The laboratory is interested in exploring novel epigenetic mechanisms of neuropsychiatric disorders, especially addiction and depression. The laboratory integrates mouse behaviors, epigenetics/genomics, and bioinformatics to address biologically meaningful questions. The postdoc candidates will be expected to work on the following NIH-funded projects:

1) Three dimensional chromosome architecture in drug addiction. We will elucidate the three-dimensional genome organization through Hi-C in preclinical mouse models of cocaine and heroin addiction. We will integrate additional genomic approaches to interpret the higher order genome organization in addiction which may lead to a novel therapy. This project is funded by a NIDA Avenir (DP1) Award.

2) Neuron subtype-specific role of DNA methylcytosine dioxygenase TET1 in cocaine addiction. We will study the functional role of TET1 and its mediated DNA methylation turnover in the major neuronal subtypes in addiction. We also plan to perturb loci specific DNA methylation through epigenome editing to identify the long sought after causal role of DNA methylation in addiction. This project is supported by an R01 fund.

Though the position is primarily for dry lab (bioinformatics), the candidate is welcome to take on wet lab experiments (molecular biology, rodent behavior, etc) if interested. Motivated individuals with a PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology, molecular genetics, or a related field are encouraged to apply. The applicants must have publication records in next generation sequencing analyses. Expertise in neuroscience or epigenetics is not required. Strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively are essential. The candidate will have ample opportunities to explore novel directions of research in neuroepigenomics within the lab.

Florida State University is a rising public university (#70 in US News National Universities ranking) with strengths in neuroscience (http://neuro.fsu.edu/) and genomics (https://genomics.fsu.edu/research). Tallahassee is the capital of Florida. The sunny weather, mild winters, easy beach access, affordable living, and great school zones make Tallahassee and ideal location for career and family development.

Interested applicants should send a cover letter, a current CV, expected starting date, as well as contact information for three references to Dr. Jian Feng at feng@bio.fsu.edu.  Review of applications will begin immediately until the position is filled.
