Specialist, Microscopy and Imaging

This Microscopy and Imaging Specialist is housed in the Nevada Center of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE) in Molecular and Cellular Signal Transduction in the Cardiovascular System, under the Core Director, Dr. Normand Leblanc, with the management of the High Temporal and Spatial Imaging Core (HSTRI; Core C) of the COBRE. The HSTRI core comprises several state-of-the-art instruments that include two Olympus confocal microscopes, two Olympus total internal reflection fluorescence microscopes (TIRFM), a Leica DMi8/SR GSD-3D super-resolution microscope, two Olympus-based Förster Resonance Energy Transfer (FRET) microscope systems, a Nikon-based IonOptix Ca2+ imaging and unloaded cell shortening microscope system, and a Thorlabs two-photon fluorescence microscope.  The primary duties of the selected individual will be to provide technical support and training of core users, and aid in developing and troubleshooting methods and standard imaging procedures. The candidate will also be involved in the maintenance of Core C equipment and implementing a centralized procedure for online scheduling of reservations and compiling metrics in regard to the usage of the microscope systems. 

The incumbent will be expected to attend on an annual basis one national or international specialized conference or workshop focused on the various technologies supported by the HSTRI Core, and newer technologies arising that could be beneficial for the COBRE.

Required Qualification

Bachelor's Degree in Physiology, Biophysics, or related discipline and three years of related work experience, OR Master's Degree in Physiology, Biophysics, or related discipline and two years of related work experience.

Related work experience: experience with one or more of the instruments in the core.

Preferred Qualifications

Five or more years of related work experience in addition to the degree(s) listed above.
