Postdoctoral Research Associate (Anticipated)

The Kohan Lab, in the Department of Nutritional Sciences at the University of Connecticut, is seeking highly motivated and self-sufficient candidates to apply for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position in our basic and translational immunometabolism laboratory. The Kohan Lab studies the role of the intestine, its lipoproteins, and its immune cells in cardio-metabolic disease. This Postdoctoral Research Associate will work under the guidance of Dr. Kohan on a federally funded research project focused on the role of lipoproteins in tolerogenic immune cells and IBD. Therefore, a strong background in biochemistry, metabolism, immunology, or inflammatory disease is preferred. The position will involve the use of mouse models, and primary mouse and human organoids. Competitive candidates will have experience in flow cytometry, cell sorting, molecular biology, and metabolism.

This position will be supported to work both independently and collaboratively, to develop novel experimental tools, to attack cutting edge scientific problems, and to gain experience developing, writing, and submitting fellowship/grant proposals (to NIH and foundation funders). The Kohan Lab enthusiastically respects work-life balance, especially parenthood and other high-intensity life experiences, and encourages our fellows to be well-equipped for a career within and outside of traditional academic positions.

  • Ability to act independently in the performance of everyday tasks and responsibilities and work well in teams.

PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with flow cytometry, FACS analyses, tissue culture, mouse metabolism studies.
  • Background in biochemistry, metabolism, physiology, immunology, or inflammatory disease.
  • Excellent scientific, written communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
