About the role

As our Senior Research Fellow you will be focused primarily conducting and leading research into Spinal Cord Injury (SCI), using state of the art stem cell or neural plasticity research in animal models and ultimately directed towards human studies and implementation.

The role involves the conception, design and performance of novel projects both in vivo and in vitro under direction of the Professor Vissel.

You will work to boost the profile of the Centre through publications, invited talks, international and domestic collaborations and utilise a cross-disciplinary approach to achieve research goals, leading and eventually growing a research group in this endeavour.

About you

You will have the ability and expertise to undertake fundamental and applied research in the field of Stem Cell Research and/or circuit plasticity and/or slice and in vivo electrophysiology and preferably preclinical/ translational experience, in in vivo and in vitro studies, directed at human impact and translation for Spinal Cord Injury. 

You will also have:

  • A strong commitment to excellence in quality and standard of research, leadership and management responsibilities
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and collaborative skills
  • Experience as either a named investigator or a major role in writing, research proposal submissions to external funding bodies; first author publications; and supervisory experience consistent with these requirements
  • A research track record in neuroscience with extensive experience in spinal cord research
  • Skills and experience necessary for working with mice and rodents in a number of paradigms, and potentially, in working for human clinical trials.

A PhD or equivalent in neuroscience or a highly related discipline is required.

Remuneration & Benefits

Base Salary Range: $125,150 to $143,725 pa (Level C)

This role attracts 17% superannuation (pension) in addition to the base salary.

This position is full time and appointment will be made on a fixed term basis for 5 years.
