Microbiologist/Immunologist, Division of Biosciences

The Division of Biosciences, College of Dentistry at The Ohio State University is seeking applications for a full-time tenure track faculty position at the rank of assistant/associate professor with research expertise in microbiology, immunology or infectious disease to complement the existing strengths of faculty. Candidates must have a PhD degree, postdoctoral training, a history of sustained research funding or potential to develop, and sustain an externally funded research program.  For tenure appointment, candidates must demonstrate a sustained, outstanding record of funded research and teaching.

The division currently has well-established programs in neuroscience, immunology, hard tissue biology, muscle biology, and microbiology (dentistry.osu.edu/biosciences). College research beyond the division includes directed bone augmentation and preservation, inflammatory mediators in periodontal disease, molecular epidemiology of periodontal microbes in smokers, and early detection and prevention of oral cancer.

Ohio State provides a highly interactive environment with extensive opportunities for collaborations within the College of Dentistry as well as with faculty in the College of Medicine and other colleges, centers and institutes across the University. Excellent molecular, transgenic, behavioral testing and imaging core facilities are available. Participation in teaching in basic science courses in the dental curriculum will be expected. Significant start-up funds and customized laboratory space are available.

The successful candidate will possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a desire to create an environment that promotes collegiality, collaboration, and cultural diversity among members of various education, research, and service cultural communities. A willingness to serve as a role model and advocate for the ideals of professionalism and high ethical standards in a health science educational setting is essential. Faculty members also participate in service at the college, university and national levels.
