Located on a 200-acre campus on the northwest side of San Antonio, Texas, Texas Biomed partners with hundreds of researchers and institutions around the world, targeting advances in the fight against infectious diseases impacting our communities around the world, including AIDS, TB, hepatitis, malaria, hemorrhagic fever viruses, parasitic infections and many other infectious diseases.  We also study co-morbidities of infection and vulnerable populations, such as the very young and the elderly and those suffering from cardiovascular diseases and metabolic disorders. Its staff of more than 350 employees includes a multidisciplinary team of approximately 65+ doctoral-level scientists who lead more than 200 major research projects in the Institute’s three program areas of Disease Intervention & Prevention, Host Pathogen Interaction and Population Health, as well as the Southwest National Primate Research Center.

Job Summary

Postdoctoral Scientist – 19-029

We are searching for a highly motivated Postdoctoral candidate with strong ambition and commitment to a productive environment in a high achieving academic environment. Our laboratory focuses on neural stem cell isolation, perpetuation and differentiation into specific neural lineages for basic biology, drug discovery and stem cell-based therapy for neurological disorders. We have discovered technologies for neural stem cell derivation and differentiation into dopaminergic neurons with application in Parkinson’s disease, stroke, traumatic brain injury and other neurological disorders. We work with rodent and nonhuman primate models of Parkinson’s disease, stroke and traumatic brain injury. The postdoc fellow will report to Dr. Marcel Daadi.

Requirements for this position are:  Ph.D. in neurosciences, molecular neurobiology or developmental biology with experience in induced pluripotent stem cells. Strong molecular/developmental biology background to investigate reprogramming, induced-pluripotent stem cell derivation and characterization, genome-editing using CRISPR-CAS9 and disease modeling.

This is a full-time salaried (exempt) position. Texas Biomed business hours are Mondays through Fridays 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Texas Biomed is committed to a drug-free workplace.  Pre-employment drug screen is required.
