Postdoctoral Research Associate in Structural Biology/Peptide Therapeutics

Position Description: A postdoctoral position is available immediately in the laboratory of David Williams (http://dcwilljrlab.web.unc.edu/) from the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. The research focus will be to study the structure and function of a large epigenetic complex involved in methylation-dependent gene silencing. In addition, the work will involve characterizing cell penetrating peptides that disrupt formation of this complex as a novel strategy for treating cancer as well as beta-hemoglobinopathies. The lab uses a combination of NMRspectroscopy, FRET, BRET, ITC, and other biophysical techniques to characterize protein-DNA and protein-protein complexes. Other research projects in the lab involve studying the dynamics of methyl-cytosine binding domains on DNA as well as the effects of pathogenic mutations on the structure and dynamics of these domains.

Qualifications: Ph.D. in the biological or chemical sciences, or comparable degree in a related discipline. A strong background in biochemistry and/or structural biology as well as experience in protein purification and tissue culture are required. Experience with peptide synthesis, chemical modification, and purification, as well as an interest in translational research and applying for fellowship funding are highly desirable.

To Apply:  Please upload a curriculum vitae, contact information for three references and a cover letter briefly describing your previous experience and how your interests might fit into the current focus areas of the lab to http://unc.peopleadmin.com/postings/162961.

Location:  Chapel Hill is an attractive, safe and diverse college town that ranks as one of the best places to live in the United States (https://www.unc.edu/life/about-the-city/).
