The Director of Bioinformatics has the responsibility for managing the day to day operations of a department of the Institute. These responsibilities include managing projects, personnel and budgets for the department. In addition a director has input into the institutional planning and yearly budgeting exercises. It is expected that the Director propose and execute new projects and actively identify and pursue new funding opportunities. Maintaining a vigorous research program and assuring the communication of research results, through presentations and publications, is also part of a Director’s responsibilities. The Director of Bioinformatics is expected to possess and understand major bioinformatics data analysis methods and algorithms across genomic, proteomic, and clinical areas with an established national reputation to effectively lead the bioinformatics research and data analysis support work in the bioinformatics department. PhD or equivalent in bioinformatics, computational biology, biomedical informatics, or a related field required; master’s degree with five years’ experience is considered PhD equivalent. A wide range of hands-on experiences in bioinformatics data analysis using common genomic and proteomic applications, and statistical data analysis tools. 10+ years of work experience after post-doctoral training preferred.  5+ year’s managerial experience preferred. Nationally recognized researcher as evidenced by a strong publications track record and service as an invited speaker to scientific conferences. Successful experience in grant applications. Experiences as a grant reviewer and/or scientific journal editor.
