The Research Group

The P53 and metabolism laboratory, led by Professor Karen Vousden, is composed of postdoctoral scientists, clinical and non-clinical PhD students and research scientists. We have been at the Crick since the summer of 2017 and our focus is cancer metabolism, with some focus on the tumour suppressor protein p53.  We are looking for a dedicated, ambitious and collaborative scientist who can work independently and as part of a team. Previous experience in metabolism would be an advantage, and a PhD (or be in the final stages of completion) in a relevant area is required.

Project Summary

The p53 and metabolism laboratory focuses on understanding how and why cancers develop. We are focused on two interrelated questions; how do metabolic and survival functions of wild type and mutant p53 control tumour development and how can nutrient and ROS regulation impact cancer initiation and progression? Our goal is to understand the mechanistic biology underlying these phenomena and thereby reveal novel vulnerabilities and therapeutic approaches. This project will continue to build on our work identifying cancer-specific metabolic changes and vulnerabilities and how these could be exploited for cancer treatment. The successful applicant will use a wide range of techniques, including metabolomics, cell biology and in vivo studies. We are looking for a dedicated, ambitious and collaborative scientist who can work independently and as part of a team. Previous experience in metabolism would be an advantage, and a PhD in a relevant area is required

Postdoctoral Training Fellows are expected to lead their own projects, contribute to other projects on a collaborative basis (both in the lab and with external collaborators) and guide PhD students in their research. The ability to work in a team is essential.
