Position Description:

The University of Maryland Department of Anesthesiology is ranked #11 in the nation by Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research and has a rapidly expanding research enterprise.  The department is recruiting for two full-time junior faculty positions in the field of biomedical research.  The expected ranks are Research Associate (one) and Assistant Professor (one); however, rank and tenure status is dependent on candidate’s qualifications. The Department offers competitive compensation, excellent benefits, and a generous retirement plan.

The positions will work closely with a senior faculty member in a well-established laboratory where the academic research focus is on studies of tissue ischemia-reperfusion injury following stroke, cardiac arrest or hemorrhagic shock.

Job Requirements:

Qualified applicants must have a doctoral degree in the field of biomedical research or a related discipline and post-doctoral experience.  Experience in animal models of stroke, cardiac arrest or hemorrhagic shock, experimental study design and methodology, statistical analysis of experimental results, as well as writing animal protocols, manuscripts and grant proposals, is essential.  Extensive expertise in rodent and swine surgery, tissue ischemia-reperfusion injury, and inflammatory and immune response after injury, is preferred but not required.  Experience in advanced imaging techniques, immunoassay development, flow cytometry, molecular cloning and assisting in training of post-doctoral fellows will be useful.
