Position Summary

Our group is a diverse group of ~25 scientists, technicians and PhD students. We are on the Monrovia Campus of City of Hope, CA and mainly focus on basic and translational research with the ultimate goal to cure acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), which represents the most frequent type of cancer in children and young adults. Our research involves innovative molecular and cell biology techniques, characterization of patient-derived samples and in vivo drug-testing of experimental compounds in mouse models.

Key Responsibilities include:
  • Under the supervision of an Assistant Research Professor, the Research Associate I (RAI) studies oncogenic signaling as well as transcriptional control of kinases, phosphatases and metabolism in ALL.
  • Utilizing laboratory equipment and established protocols, performs a variety of routine tasks and increasingly complex research experiments. Records and validates results for accuracy and completeness.
  • May modify protocols.
  • Maintains records of work performed including results and methodology.
  • Develops techniques and expertise in one or more areas relevant to research project.
  • Ensures that all laboratory activities are carried out in compliance with safety procedures and guidelines in handling, storage and disposal of materials.
  • RAI may have previous research experience and be able to perform or learn a variety of cellular and molecular biological procedures, including molecular cloning, cell culture and other laboratory skills.


Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:
  • Bachelor's degree in biological sciences.
  • 0-2 years of research/laboratory experience.

Preferred education experience and skills:
  • Experience in molecular cell biology and tissue culture is desirable, but training will be provided to RAI.
  • The ideal candidate must be flexible in a laboratory environment. Good organizational skills and attention to detail are required. A positive attitude and the desire to learn are attributes of a successful candidates.
