Position Summary

The Beckman Research Institute of City of Hope is looking for a talented and highly motivated Post-doctoral Fellow, to join the Laboratory for Cellular Medicine (LCM), Center for Gene Therapy. The candidate will join a well-established group performing cutting-edge research and clinical trials of gene and stem cell therapy, including first-in-human studies of genome-editing of hematopoietic stem/progenitor cells (HSPC).

Key Responsibilities include:
  • Fellows are expected to perform high quality original research work, to prepare manuscripts for publication, contribute to the preparation of progress reports for funding agencies, and to submit relevant postdoctoral fellowship and grant applications.
  • The successful candidate will develop research on targeted gene modification of human HSPC, including with novel gene transduction and genome-editing platforms, and on strategies to preserve stemness and expansion of gene-modified HSPC.
  • Candidates who have strong interest in translational research and appreciate the complexity of biological systems are particularly encouraged to apply.

Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:
  • A Ph.D. degree in life or biomedical sciences, or a related discipline is required;
  • Expertise in the study of steady-state or altered hematopoiesis, biology of HSPC and their interplay with the hematopoietic niche, and with experience in animal models of hematopoiesis and human HSPC transplantation;
  • Ability to work independently, to participate in highly collaborative projects, and to contribute intellectually to the development of the research are requisites for this position.

Preferred education experience and skills:
  • Degrees in hematology or stem cell biology.
