Job Information
Postdoctoral Research Associate to work with structural glycobiology in Dr. Vitor H. Pomin’s laboratory in the Department of BioMolecular Sciences, School of Pharmacy. The position will give opportunities to the researcher to improve skills in methods of multidimensional NMR, isolation and physicochemical analysis of sulfated glycans from natural sources, protein expression and labeling with magnetically active isotopes.
Job Responsibilities
The postdoctoral research associate will work with the most cutting-edge techniques of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy used to investigate protein-carbohydrate complexes, especially those formed by sulfated glycans like glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) and sulfated fucans and galactans extracted from marine sources. Post doc will perform advanced NMR experiments like transferred Nuclear Overhauser Effect (trNOE), Saturation Transfer Difference (STD) and Chemical Shift Perturbation (CSP) experiments to investigate the molecular details of sulfated sugars and their protein partners involved intermolecular complexes. Techniques of isolation, purification, 2D NMR and chemical reactions of sulfated glycans will be conducted. In addition, methods to produce isotopically enriched as well as paramagnetically tagged sulfated glycan-derived oligosaccharides and novel approaches used to examine lysine and arginine side chains to identify the binding sites in sulfated glycan-binding proteins such as heparin cofactor II will be performed.
Minimum Education/Experience
Must have a Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related discipline by the time of the appointment. The theoretical and practical experiences in NMR spectroscopy, structural (glyco)biology and protein expression of the applicants will be used for evaluation and ranking by the search committee, and may include minimal or advanced level. Applications must be submitted through the University of Mississippi's online employment site at https://careers.olemiss.edu.
