Translational Neuropsychiatry Unit (TNU), Department of Clinical Medicine, Aarhus University invites applications for a position as Associate Professor in Translational Psychiatry as per 1 October 2019. The position is a permanent full-time position.
 
Department of Clinical Medicine
As an associate professor at the Department of Clinical Medicine, you will be part of what is probably the largest health science research department in Denmark. Our clinical research covers all the medical specialities and takes place in close collaboration with the university hospital and the regional hospitals in the Central Denmark Region. We have approx. 30,000 square metres of modern research facilities for experimental surgery and medicine, animal facilities and also advanced scanners at our disposal. The department has overall responsibility for the Master's degree programs in medicine and in molecular medicine. At the department we are approx. 425 academic employees and the same number of PhD students cooperating across disciplines. As an associate professor, you will be working on Aarhus University Hospital or another hospital in the Central Denmark Region. Translational Neuropsychiatry Unit
TNU carries out translational neuropsychiatric research, particularly focusing on animal experimental studies with translation to human disease. The overall goal is to understand brain neurobiology, and to facilitate development of new therapeutics, particularly targeting mood and anxiety disorders. Read more here.
 
Your job responsibilities
As an associate professor in Translational Psychiatry, you will join a supportive environment designed to allow starting faculty to develop robust research programs. Here you will add to, extend and complement the research environment in TNU. You ensure that your teaching maintains a high academic and didactic standard. You possess excellent collaborative skills and a broad academic network, which you are able to bring into play in your contribution to the academic development of Aarhus University and its profile both nationally and internationally. 
 
Your main tasks will consist of:

  • Research of high international quality, including publication in top international journals and communicating your research in national and international academic networks.
  • Supervise graduate students and participate in daily teaching activities.
  • Develop independent innovative externally funded research programs.
  • Collaborate with Danish and international researchers.
  • Supervision of PhD students and contributing to the development of the faculty's PhD courses.
  • Involvement in assessment and committee work at Aarhus University.

You will report to the Head of TNU, Professor Gregers Wegener.

Your competences
You have an independent profile, experience in performing translational neuroscience research, and fit into the overall research profile of TNU. It is an advantage if you have hands-on experience with the technical platforms available in TNU, including advanced behavioural animal phenotyping, neurochemical, molecular, genetic/epigenetic, systems biology approaches, immunostaining and imaging techniques.
 
You possess solid scientific qualifications corresponding to minimum a PhD degree within a relevant field, 6-8 years of postdoctoral experience, a track record of independent front-line state-of-the-art research, solid post-graduate student supervision, preferably as main supervisor, and high-level teaching qualifications. You naturally involve yourself in interdisciplinary collaboration at departmental, faculty and university level as well as nationally and internationally.

We expect you to be fluent in oral and written English. International applicants are expected to learn Danish, and Aarhus University arranges Danish teaching.

Terms of employment
Appointment as an associate professor requires research and teaching qualifications at such level as can be attained following a satisfactory period of appointment as an assistant professor, but which could also be achieved otherwise.
