Obesity and T cell memory: The Whitmire Laboratory is seeking a postdoctoral scholar to lead a project studying the impact of obesity and adipose tissue on antiviral T cell responses. The goals of the project involve understanding how T cells enter adipose, investigating how adipokines regulate T cell development, and determining how memory T cells contribute to pathogenesis in the context of obesity. Please see PMID:30970254. The long-range goal is to translate basic research in mouse models to human.  Essential equipment and expertise are available for these studies, including biocontainment facilities, flow cytometers, microscopy, metabolomics, and genomics core facilities. This position provides an opportunity to participate in collaborations with other laboratories and to train in viral immunology, viral pathogenesis, and nutrition in relation to host defense against infection.

Educational Requirements: Ph.D. in Immunology, Virology, or Microbiology

Qualifications and Experience: A strong background in cellular immunology and experience in mouse models of infectious disease. Knowledge of T cell biology or nutrition biology is a plus. Successful applicants will have a strong track record of research productivity and excellent communication skills.
