Medical College of Wisconsin

Senior Associate Dean of Cancer Research &

Director, Medical College of Wisconsin Cancer Center

Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW), located in Milwaukee, WI, invites applications and nominations for the position of Senior Associate Dean of Cancer Research & Director, Medical College of Wisconsin Cancer Center (MCWCC). This is a unique opportunity to lead the only academic cancer research center in the populous eastern Wisconsin region. MCW, Froedtert Health, Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin (CHW), Clement J. Zablocki Veteran’s Hospital (VA), Versiti Blood Center of Wisconsin and MCWCC have contributed to a strong history of growth and success in cancer care, clinical research, and community engagement, providing a strong foundation for obtaining National Cancer Institute (NCI) designation status. MCWCC is comprised of more than 345 cancer researchers and physicians from more than 34 departments at MCW and its partner organizations. The resulting integration of Froedtert & Medical College of Wisconsin (F&MCW), Clinical Cancer Center (CLCC) and MCWCC along with the clinical and research partners at CHW, VA and Versiti, is collectively referred to as the Cancer Center.

With a catchment area of several highly populous cities in the state and 65% of the state’s total minority population, the Cancer Center is the primary academic provider of cancer care to these populations. Driven by the needs of the community, MCW identified cancer as its top strategic priority. A significant portion of MCW’s research portfolio is cancer, accounting for 17% of total grant funding and 23% of NIH funding. Physician scientists and other providers treat over 4,000 new cancer cases each year and enroll patients in over 400 active cancer clinical trials. Clinical care has doubled every year, and all cancer care delivered has performed at the 95th percentile via Press Ganey.

The Cancer Center’s infrastructure is state of the art and expanding. Froedtert Health and MCW recently opened a new four-story cancer inpatient tower, doubling cancer center inpatient space. The Center for Advanced Care provides a comfortable and confidence-inspiring refuge for patients and families and offers specially designed and centralized facilities for cancer patients, including those undergoing BMT and participating in new immunotherapy trials. In early 2019, MCW received a financial commitment from the State of Wisconsin to help fund construction of a new state-of-the-art $100 million cancer research center building that will drive new scientific discoveries, attract highly talented cancer researchers and lessen the burden of cancer on Wisconsin residents.

Reporting to the Dean of the School of Medicine/Provost and to the CEO of Froedtert Health, the Director will have oversight of a $17M budget and will harness existing momentum to bring the Cancer Center to the next level of prominence. The successful candidate will be an MD or MD/PhD, will be appointed at the full professor level, will have a distinguished academic, will establish a compelling vision to advance its scientific objectives, will lead the development of strong interdisciplinary cancer research programs, and will provide leadership in financial resources and philanthropic fundraising as they work towards obtaining NCI designation status.

MCW has retained Isaacson, Miller, a national search firm, to assist with the search. All correspondence, including applications, nominations, and general inquiries can be submitted in confidence to https://www.imsearch.com/search-detail/S7-010.  Applications should include a letter of interest, CV or résumé, and a separate list of references.
