The focus of this position is on advancing digital phenotyping efforts to measure symptoms and risk-states associated with serious mental illnesses. Various technologies will be emphasized that involve speech, facial, linguistic, eye-movement, electrophysiological, neural and social media behavior procured from clinical, laboratory and ambulatory settings. Data from these technologies will be understood using complex computational methods that optimize precision, clinical utility and implementation for a variety of clinical functions and populations. Within these confines, postdoctoral trainees will have much flexibility to develop their own independent research interests. Training opportunities, such as becoming competent with various computational methods, bioinformatics, biobehavioral technologies, and clinical integration of biobehavioral technologies, are available.

This position will involve developing, running and analyzing data on projects, and presenting the findings in peer-reviewed manuscripts and at conferences. The position is not dependent on obtaining extramural funding, though attempts to procure extramural funding from various private, state, national and international sources will be encouraged. This position may include other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Minimum qualifications:

A Ph.D. in clinical science, cognitive neuroscience, psychology, or a related field (e.g, computer science) by the time of employment. Knowledge of psychopathology and serious mental illness, which can be demonstrated by a track record of scholarship including peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations, is also required. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience processing, analyzing and interpreting biobehavioral data (e.g., speech, video, fMRI, EEG, or eye tracking data).
  • Experience with software programming and administering computerized psychological experiments on E-prime or Psychtoolbox and with one or more scripting languages (e.g., R, Matlab, Python).
  • Experience working with patients with serious mental illness in some capacity, as evidence by graduation from an APA approved clinical psychology program, documented practicum experiences, supervised data collection using standardized clinical measures, or through paid work or volunteer.
  • Experience working with complex data structures and relational databases.

Postdoctoral Training Position in Computational Mental Health and Digital Phenotyping

Candidates are being considered for a full-time postdoctoral position with the Clinical and Cognitive/Brain Science areas of the Psychology Department and with the Center for Computation and Technology at Louisiana State University. Research activities will align with research of Dr. Alex Cohen’s laboratories.
